REF: SOUTHEREN AFRICA ULAMA CONFERENCE

The Ulama of Malawi hereby take pleasure in inviting you to the Fifth Southern Africa Ulama Conference scheduled to be held on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd morning of May 2010, Insha Allah

The purpose of the conference, which takes place every two years, is to establish a network among the Ulama of Southern Africa and to adopt where possible, a consistent policy on issues that commonly affect us. Your esteemed presence will certainly have a positive contribution which will enhance the impact of our operations in the region.

Letters were sent out to the attendees and subcommittees of the previous conference for a follow up of the resolutions made in Lusaka. The response was unfortunately poor. Between the 17th and 20th of
April 2009, further emails and faxes were sent to inform delegates of the venue of the conference and a proposal of change of format of the conference. Regretfully the response was once again very poor. It was therefore felt that the nature of the programs be slightly changed compared to previous conferences in order to make the conference more effective and productive. Programs therefore will become more empowerment based.  Workshops on various issues and topics will be conducted by Ulama during the conference. Thus it will be an opportunity for Ulama to learn, develop and share expertise on a wide range of fields and subjects. Ulama will also gain a greater understanding of working in various environments, and the challenges that Ulama are facing in Southern Africa.

Your contribution and suggestions of which topics you are interested in are most welcomed.
