Method of calculating Zakaat on gold jewelry:
1. Weigh the jewelry according to carats.
2. Take the total in grams and multiply it by the price of that carat.
3. Multiply the result by 2.5 percent.
Example
One has 10 grams of 18 carat jewelry.
Multiply 10 by 211.8868 = 2118.868.
Multiply 2118.868 by 2.5 percent is equal to R52.9717 rounded off to R52.98.
Thus the zakaat payable on 10 grams of 18 carat jewelry will be R52.98.
